Qualifications:

  • Qualified Physical Education Teacher or an experienced graduate with equivalent teaching qualification

Desirables:

  • Knowledge and experience of the IB Primary Years Programme and/or Middle Years Programme

Bishkek International School is a non-profit community school providing excellent international education in a safe, supportive, and happy environment. The school opened in September 2011 and now has over 400 students aged 2 to 18. Fifty percent of our students are foreign citizens, children of employees of embassies, international organizations, and international businesses or NGOs. Fifty percent of students are Kyrgyz citizens. Roles & Responsibilities:
PE Teacher:

  • Develop, deliver, and assess Physical and Health Education teaching in the IB Primary Years Programme from Preschool to Grade 5 and the IB Middle Years Programme for Grade 6-8 (as required, according to student needs and teacher allocations).
  • Align learning and teaching to program approaches and grade-level requirements.
  • Create an engaging learning environment that motivates students to learn and ensures all student expectations are high.
  • Provide a positive learning environment for each student and inspire students to expand their understanding and enjoyment of the subjects taught.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of each student to be socially and academically successful, having regard to the abilities and aptitudes of individuals.
  • Enhance lessons through incorporating technology into the teaching program and be creative in working with limited resources.
  • Use a wide range of assessment methods to ensure student knowledge and understanding are appropriately recorded.
  • Provide individual tutoring for students who need support to progress in their course (as required, according to student needs and teacher allocations).
  • Be an exemplary teacher, clearly demonstrating effective planning, teaching and organization, and high standards of achievement and behavior in lessons.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to ensure a consistent approach to learning and achievement of standards for each group.
  • Work with Programme Coordinators to produce relevant planning documents and attend relevant Programme meetings.
  • Plan, keep, and report appropriate records to school management and parents.

Coaching and leading sports teams:

  • Support the Athletics Director to ensure that BIS is well represented in inter-school sports tournaments with both girls and boys teams at both junior varsity and varsity level for cross country, basketball, football, and volleyball if possible.
  • Coach and lead sports team visits to other schools for tournaments, including international trips.
  • Lead weekend sports events for inter-school football and team coaching.
  • Act as a role model for sportsmanship at all times.

Outdoor Education Leader:

  • Work with local staff to organize and support all Educational Visits outside Bishkek, ensuring engagement in outdoor activities.
  • Personally accompany approved trips that require additional staff supervision as described in the Educational Visits Policy.
  • Mountain trekking or biking club organizer for weekend excursions during favorable seasons in the school year.
  • Ski-club leadership during the ski/snowboard season
  • Provide support to Cross Country teams in training and at events during the BIS Cross Country season to enable students to reach their sporting potential.
  • Any other outdoor learning experiences for students that help them achieve their academic, sporting, and creative potential.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Extended Essay Students for the IB Diploma and/or Community Service projects for High School and Middle School students (as required, according to student needs and teacher allocations).
  • Organize and lead extra-curricular activities and student engagement in issues related to Individuals & Societies, and sports teams to promote positive interactions among students of all ages and develop their academic, creative, and sporting potential.
  • Organize and lead relevant educational visits for Middle and High school students.

General:

  • Maintain knowledge of current educational theory and practice and undertake professional training in liaison with the Head of Department.
  • Act by the budgets, policies, procedures, directions, and decisions of the school management
  • Act as ambassador for the school and act in a manner that upholds the values and ethos of the school at all times
  • Maintain high-quality standards in all areas of the school
  • Any other activities as agreed with management to contribute to the overall development of the school.

Reporting:

  • Report to the Athletics Director as PE Teacher and sports coaching
  • Report to the High School Assistant Principal and the Middle School Assistant Principal for Outdoor Education and other activities.

Timing & Duration:

The position is available to start as soon as possible for the 2024/25 Academic Year. This is a full-time long- term position with an initial contract of 2 or 3 years (subject to 3 months probation) which will be renewable by mutual consent.
