Job role: Learning Support coordinator
Reports to the Vice Principal and works in liaison with the Section Coordinators
Role Summary: The Learning Support Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring that all students in the school, including those with diverse learning needs, have equitable access to a high-quality international education. This position is committed to promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Overseeing the day-to-day operation and implementation of the school’s Learning support policy.
- Lead and manage a team of learning support specialists, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the effective delivery of learning support services.
- Develop and maintain a collaborative and cohesive learning support team
Assessment and Individualized Support:
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine the appropriate level of support required for students with Learning Support needs.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify students with Learning Support needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to their specific needs.
External Collaboration:
- Coordinate with external professionals and agencies to provide additional resources and services for students with specialized needs.
Parent and Community Engagement:
- Foster positive relationships with parents of students with Learning Support needs, providing regular updates on their child's progress and involving them in the development and review of IEPs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide initiatives related to inclusive education.
Accommodation and Modification Implementation:
- Ensure the implementation of accommodations and modifications outlined in students' IEPs, collaborating with teachers to adapt instructional strategies and materials.
- Monitor the progress of students with Learning Support needs, collect data, and regularly update IEPs based on ongoing assessment and evaluation.
Professional Development and Support:
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their understanding of inclusive teaching strategies and best practices for students with Learning Support needs.
- Serve as a resource person for teachers and staff, offering guidance and support on effective instructional techniques and classroom management strategies for students with Learning Support needs.
Social-Emotional Support:
- Collaborate with the counseling department to address the social-emotional needs of students with Learning Support needs and develop appropriate interventions.
Resource Management:
- Manage and advise on the school budget and resources for Learning Support needs provision.
- Develop and maintain systems for keeping pupil records, ensuring information is accurate and up to date
Compliance and Professional Growth:
- Stay informed about the latest research, trends, and legal requirements related to special education and inclusive practices.
- Ensure the school's compliance with relevant international and national regulations and policies related to special education.
- Perform other related tasks as requested by the School Administration.

Galaxy International School Uganda (GISU) provides international education to students between 2 and 19 years of age. From Early Years to Year, 13 students are taught using student-centred methods. Emphasis is on the development of the whole person.
