Qualifications:

  • Part time position with a clear job description and pay scale approved by School Board Policy.  Job description, pay scale and benefits presented to qualified finalists prior to being interviewed.
  • Could be an entry level for future administration positions.
  • Must be able to present a current American or Canadian or International Secondary Teaching Certificate to be selected for an interview. International Secondary Certificates will be reviewed carefully on a case by case basis prior to interview.
  • Preference given, but not required, to candidates with Secondary certifications, along with Exceptional Learners (EL), Multilingual learners (MLL). 
  • Entry level educational leadership candidates willing to be working on their administrative credentials independently is highly desirable.
  • French and Arabic language helpful but not required. 
  • Familiarity with a viable AISN Curriculum based on U.S. State Department Office of Overseas Schools AERO Standards derived from U.S. Common Core, Google Workspaces, Advanced Placement (AP),  Managebac Student Information Systems (required schoolwide Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Unit & Lesson Planning, formative and summative feedback and reporting with running records and two official report cards yearly).
  • Internal AISN employees and external qualified candidates may be considered.  All qualified candidates screened by AISN Human Resources and AISN Director prior to a committee interview led by the Principal. A qualified finalist, second and third choice recommended to the Director for a final interview and potential job offer. Board informed of the process and of the hired candidate. Board Chair and Director sign the contract offer.
  • A background check by the USA FBI will be requested at the time of an interview.  AISN follows the ICMEC.org protocols.

Established in 1978, the American International School of Nouakchott has a rich history of providing education to students from across the globe. With an established curriculum, based on U.S. AERO Standards (www.projectaero.com), students at AISN learn key concepts and develop well-rounded skills in English, math, social studies, science, French, art, music, PE, and robotics.

AISN prides itself on offering an MSA-accredited American education program for students from PreK - 12, and is the only school in Mauritania to offer American high school diplomas.

The school has a close relationship with the US Embassy and uses the attached former US Embassy’s swimming pool, basketball court, volleyball court, and walking/running/bike path daily during PE, recess, and after-school activities.

Our enrollment is approximately 90 students from 32 different countries. Classes are taught in English, often with combined grades, the average class size is 9 students with the largest class of 13.  Classes are capped at 15.

Classrooms are well equipped and the school has high-speed reliable fiber optic internet. MS/HS students are required to bring laptops every day.

AISN has 15 teachers, from 8 different countries. The largest percentage of teachers are American and almost all our full-time teachers have a US teaching license. We pride ourselves on our commitment to the ongoing education and development of our staff. We have a substantial professional development budget annually which is used for group and individual training needs.
