Job Description:

The Director of Boarding and Campus Life will manage students and activities after the regular school day and when they return to their dorms in the evening. They should be able to set a good example of responsibility, integrity, and caring while providing strong vision and leadership to VMA’s campus life. They will lead boarding and after-school staff on duty and provide direction and support. VMA wants to find a good balance between keeping high academic and behavioral expectations and valuing a positive and caring atmosphere. The Director of Boarding and Campus Life should understand the importance of building positive relationships with students and teaching students accountability and habits necessary for school, career, and life.

Duty of Care:

The Director of Boarding and Campus Life’s primary responsibility is to provide for the safety and well-being of students in our program. Residential and campus life and activities inherently have a degree of risk, and all decisions cannot be covered in a student handbook. Assessment of the level of risk is the Director's primary duty, and sound professional judgment is expected to be practiced in all situations and circumstances.

Position demands:

A qualified candidate should have an appropriate blend of education and experience to serve us xo z senior school leadership and specifically lead a boarding program. Additional desirable attributes include:

Providing effective leadership and support to boarding staff and students;
Demonstrating support for the school’s mission, vision, goals and values;
A professional, flexible, conscientious, and patient demeanor;
Able to demonstrate a genuine warmth and interest in the students in their care;
Effective communication, listening, and organization skills;
Having a good understanding and tolerance of teenagers;
Maintaining confidentiality and practicing discretion in matters relating to the school and students;
Participating as a member of VMA senior staff and representing the needs of our boarding and afterschool programs.
