Department Chairs are responsible for ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, effective use of resources, and improving standards in learning and achievement by providing professional leadership and management. They further contribute to the development and implementation of the whole school vision, mission, schoolwide learner outcomes, policies, and procedures.

The Department Chair, in collaboration with the Academic Director, provides leadership and support in their department in line with whole school vision, mission, schoolwide learner outcomes, policies and procedures by:
- modelling strong, aligned leadership in all areas of school life, including effectively collaborating with other departments, offices, and administration;
- writing, tracking, and updating the departmental action plan in line with the whole school action plan;
- actively and positively contributing to the WASC self-review process both in home and focus groups;
- building and contributing to a positive culture within their own and between different departments;
- dealing with concerns of teachers, students, and parents professionally and fairly;
- building strong teaching teams through strong hiring practices and teacher placement plans, as well as regular coaching and supporting of teachers;g. playing an integral role in supporting newly qualified teachers, as well as teachers new to VMA in becoming a valued member of the team and contributing positively to a high level of student learning.

About the Curriculum:
VMA offers three major curriculum programs: Sino-US Integrated Curriculum (US Track), Sino-UK Integrated Curriculum (UK Track), and VMAA Curriculum (VMAA, namely Vanke Meisha Arts Academy). Students in the three programs can apply to universities all over the world for further study, not just in one country or region.
