- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and action planning to improve student learning outcomes

Subjects to teach: Global Perspectives and Research Course for High School students.
Reporting to the Chair of the Social Science Department, the Global Perspectives Teacher will be responsible for defining the scope and sequence of the Year 1 course to deliver consistent, cohesive, effective instruction that prepares students for the core Research curriculum at VMA. The Research Course Teacher will be responsible for refining the scope and sequence of VMA research courses to deliver consistent, cohesive, effective instruction that prepares students for both the upper level of VMA’s academic program, and also the demands students will face in college and beyond.
Specific duties include:
- Work in conjunction with a teacher cohort to develop a rigorous and aligned Global Perspectives curriculum focused on skills of analysis, collaboration, communication, evaluation, reflection, and research
- Revise, in collaboration with others, syllabus for Global Perspectives and research courses.
- Implement student-centered lesson plans aligned with daily learning objectives to actively engage students in the learning process
- Guide students in collecting and analyzing sources to develop well-supported arguments and solutions
- Integrate English language acquisition into daily lessons
- Integrate rigorous and targeted formative and summative assessments as well as daily checks for understanding
- Continuously monitor and evaluate student performance data to identify areas for improvement and develop action steps to enhance student learning outcomes
- Provide specific, actionable feedback promptly in response to student work
- Creation and revision of all assessments in conjunction with teacher cohort
- Serve as a resource for colleagues in all departments who seek guidance about best research practices; advise on curriculum aimed at developing research skills and mindsets; and coordinate efforts to support students in their study of research
- Active participation in regular meetings of fellow teachers of research to ensure consistent and complete execution of the curriculum as well as consistency in grading practices
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, professional development workshops, and school activities
- Engage in ongoing professional growth and stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in global perspectives and research education
- Work in close collaboration with the Social Science Department Chair to ensure alignment with—and to infuse research more effectively into—other courses
- Teaching and ensuring that high standards of academic integrity are maintained
- Active participation in the process of devising a long-term strategic plan for developing and making visible student research skills
