Normal teaching load is 20-22 55-minute periods. There will be grade 9 & 10 classes doing the IGCSE Co-ordinated Science. Grade 11 & 12 classes are groups doing the Australian Curriculum Physics course integrating the International Baccalaureate. If there are PNG students in these classes, they will also sit the PNG Grade 12 Examinations. You may also be required to teach a grade 7/8 class following the Cambridge Lower Secondary syllabus.

The teacher is responsible for ensuring that all assessment items meet the requirements of all external providers. The ACT and PNG Systems both use continuous internal assessments, so the standard of assessment items is important. Also, in these systems, marks from different strands have to be combined. For example, there will be PNG standards following the International Programme, and the internal marks generated there have to be combined with the internal marks of the students following PNG only. This has to be done equitably and fairly. The teacher is also responsible for IB Internal Assessments.

The ACT requires moderation of Internal Assessment Instruments. So each year, staff have to prepare moderation portfolios of assessment instruments and sample student work, which is then peer-moderated within the ACT system.

The IB also requires Internal Assessment. Teachers are expected to assess a 60-hour Practical Scheme of Work and submit it for moderation to the IB. The student's exam results will be combined with this assessment for their final grade.

Professional Development & Training:

The school will provide access to online Cambridge & IB Training where necessary. However, the main requirement here is in the opposite direction. 80% of our staff are PNG, and there, the PNG Govt has a policy of localisation, so all overseas employees are required to take part in the training and professional development of their PNG colleagues.

Pastoral Duties:

All staff are expected to fulfil the duties of pastoral teacher where required. This is mainly through being assigned a Roll Call class.
