Job Purpose:
The Literacy Specialist, as a member of the Leadership Team, is responsible for the strategic improvement of English literacy levels across the school. This role is integral in utilizing data to drive instructional decisions, ensuring accountability in literacy attainment, and implementing targeted interventions to enhance student progress. The Literacy Specialist will lead and implement a comprehensive literacy development strategy, with a particular emphasis on English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners.
Strategic Leadership in Literacy:
- Develop and oversee the school-wide literacy strategy in alignment with the school’s vision and improvement plans.
- Lead initiatives that drive measurable improvements in literacy attainment across all grade levels.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to integrate literacy goals into broader school development plans.
Data-Driven Literacy Improvement:
- Analyze student performance data to inform literacy instruction and interventions.
- Set measurable literacy attainment goals and monitor progress across all grade levels.
- Utilize formative and summative assessments to evaluate literacy skills and track improvements over time.
- Provide reports and insights on literacy development trends to senior leadership.
Culturally Responsive Literacy Instruction:
- Design literacy programs that reflect the cultural values and lived experiences of students.
- Integrate themes and content that engage students, particularly Emirati boys, through interests such as sports and technology.
- Support classroom teachers in embedding culturally relevant literacy strategies into their curriculum.
Process Development and Continuous Improvement:
- Design and refine assessment processes to ensure efficiency, reliability, and alignment with industry best practices.
- Evaluate and update assessment methodologies to improve validity and effectiveness.
- Keep abreast of emerging trends in assessment and integrate innovative strategies.
Professional Development & Teacher Training:
- Lead workshops and training sessions for teachers on effective literacy instruction and assessment strategies.
- Coach and mentor teachers on implementing evidence-based literacy interventions.
- Ensure faculty integrates literacy best practices across all subjects.
Student Engagement & Enrichment:
- Develop and lead literacy enrichment activities such as book clubs, writing workshops, and creative projects.
- Use multimodal resources, including technology, interactive media, and digital tools, to enhance literacy instruction.
- Foster a positive literacy culture by organizing school-wide literacy events and initiatives.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work with parents to provide strategies for supporting literacy development at home.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to align literacy instruction with the school’s academic goals.
- Establish partnerships with external literacy organizations to enhance resources and learning opportunities.
