Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of English language development, language structure, use, and real-life application
- Develop in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship.
- Ability to provide an active and communicative approach to learning English with clarity, accuracy, and relevance to culture
- Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes, including the use of learning technology and assessment, to establish a challenging learning environment in which learners are encouraged to work towards the attainment of their potential
- Experience with second language learners
- Develop an appreciation of good literature of all types.
- Motivate students to read widely for information and recreation.
- Develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media.
- Discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to meet the California & Common Core standards.
- Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to secondary school students, utilizing a curriculum designated by INPS.
- Adapt English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with California & Common Core standards; provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Evaluate each student’s progress in meeting the course standards for English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).
