Work Schedule: 7:30 am - 3:30 pm

Responsible for instruction daily. Familiar with Reading and Math programs based on the Common Core State Standards in conjunction with a myriad of strategies and instructional techniques to deliver the content in the subjects and classes assigned by the school’s administration, aligning with the school’s mission and vision.

Advocate for students, provide personalized learning experiences, and student support inside and outside the classroom, and actively participate in ASD extracurricular activities.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Teach all G2 subjects following the school’s schedule, standards, and curriculum map.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to cater to the individual needs of students. 
  • Invest time and energy in SEL practices and routines to create a strong connection with students. 
  • Utilize various instructional strategies, such as group discussions, lectures, small group instruction, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Evaluate students' academic and social progress using multiple measures of data, including school-mandated assessments.
  • Collect and analyze data from various sources, including MAP, to make informed instructional decisions and interventions. 
  • Collaborate with other staff members to identify and address student needs related to health, attitude, and learning challenges. 
  • Meet regularly with parents to present results via email as well as through scheduled parent meetings.
  • Stay updated on the latest educational practices through professional development materials, in-service opportunities, and independent growth initiatives.
  • Attend duties as assigned by the divisional principal.

The American School of Durango (ASD) is a private, non-profit, K-12 school located in Durango, Mexico. Established in 1954, since its inception, ASD has been accredited by the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) and obtained additional accreditation from AdvanceED, a division of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (from 1997 to present) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (from 1998 to present), therefore upon graduation, our students receive a double diploma. ASD has 500+ students, of which approximately 60% are enrolled in early childhood and elementary, and 40% are enrolled in middle and high school college preparatory programs. Over 95% of our students are Latinos. Facilities include a science lab, a computer laboratory, and a library/media center in every area. The average class size is 20. The teaching faculty at ASD includes teachers from the United States, Australia, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Taiwan, the UK, and Mexico. 

ASD is focused on providing a rigorous learning environment that encourages high expectations of all, to prepare our students to study successfully around the world.
