Job Description (Career Counselor):
Reports to: The principal
Role: Provides services to students and parents which will assist the student in making appropriate decisions relative to his/her educational objectives and school programs.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Helps students to define their long-range educational goals and assists them in making appropriate decisions regarding the school programs; interprets requirements relating to successful performance in various courses of study and for graduation and college entrance requirements; assists students in establishing short-range goals for each school year and in setting personal performance standards.
- Confers with students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding individual student progress and arranges conferences when requested with students, parents, teachers, and/or administrators.
- Implementing career development programs in collaborative arrangements with professional colleagues in the wider academic community.
- Track students’ academic progress, credit attainment, and transcripts for graduation.
- Provide career counseling and career development sessions for graduates and alumni.
- Conduct training, workshops, lectures, presentations, and other events to develop career planning and employability skills for students.
- Coordinate with academic advisors to help students in making career choices based on their academic majors (guidance on subject choices to follow particular interest-related career paths)
- Guidance on selecting and applying for universities.
- Conduct career awareness events and career fairs for students
- Coffee evening for parents
