There is not a great deal of paid work for foreigners in Turkmenistan, although volunteer teaching placements may be available for teachers interested in teaching English. International schools, generally using an imported curriculum from Europe or the United States, hire licensed teachers to teach expatriate children in English.

Teaching Jobs in Turkmenistan – Hiring

The school year follows a similar calendar to North America, with classes starting in early September and completing for the year in June. Primary and Secondary schools begin their recruitment for the year in early spring. For voluntary or ESL teaching positions, hiring may take place throughout the year. Visitors can take in the architecture in the ancient cities of Merv and Dekhistan or visit the modern capital of Ashgabat. Outdoor enthusiasts will want to visit the Karakum Desert’s burning gas craters and multi-colored canyons.
