Hobby School is looking for enthusiastic and motivated teachers to fill in the position of Science Teacher in middle school.

This is a full-time position. The teachers should expect to teach up to 25 class hours per week. The Science classes in middle school will be closely aligned with the IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum https://fieldworkeducation.com/curriculums/middle-years) Big Ideas. The IMYC connects all learning of the students within the framework of a single Big Idea, therefore, a great deal of teamwork and creativity is essential.

We are looking for teachers who are ready and willing to work in a new and challenging environment. You will have the opportunity to work alongside many teachers who are hard-working, dedicated, passionate, and open-minded - qualities that the successful candidate will need to bring with them to our community of 800 students and 60+ educators.

The Science teacher's duties will include:

  • Prepare and implement lesson plans using the IMYC, including preparing PPTs, visuals, worksheets and materials for lab work (there is no textbook for Science per se as the nature of IMYC calls for the use of many resources thus preparing own worksheets in accordance with the learning tasks provided in the IMYC is a must;
  • Conduct regular assessment of students learning (tests and exam) as well as designing/using rubrics to assess students skill progression in Science including IMYC journaling
  • Report students progress to parents in a timely manner (through e-school and others, including feedback during parent-teacher conferences)
  • Collaborate with Mongolian Science teachers when planning for team teaching and other science-related activities such as Science week, Green day etc.

  • Implement discipline and classroom management and model expected behavior to establish an orderly classroom
  • Communicate with class teacher regarding student problems, misbehavior etc.
  • Active participation in school-wide activities such as English Olympiad, Drama festival among others
  • Find opportunities for students to participate in national/international science competitions like Science olympiads and fairs (school is very supportive of this)

Founded in 1994, Hobby School is the first private school in Mongolia, established to educate the next generation of Mongolian intelligentsia during a time of tough economic conditions, a rapidly growing urban population, and a declining public education system. With 30 years of experience in the field, Hobby School continues to be a leading institution in the country.

The school's name, while evoking leisure, carries deep significance. It was inspired by the Eurasian Hobby (Falco Subbuteo), a falcon species revered by Mongolians as a symbol of courage and vigor.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, Hobby School serves approximately 1,200 students, from grades 1 to 12 (ages 6 to 17). Today, the school is widely regarded as one of Mongolia's top secondary education institutions.

Our Mission and Vision
Guided by the vision of our founder, Dr. Oyuntsetseg, Hobby School is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of Mongolian intelligentsia. To ensure accessibility for families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, the school maintains tuition fees at levels far below its peer institutions.

Curriculum Highlights
Hobby School offers a bilingual curriculum, combining the State-approved General Secondary Education Curriculum of Mongolia with immersion-based English instruction.

Firsts in Mongolia:

  • Introduced the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).
  • Adopted AP courses into its curriculum.

Future Plans: The school is preparing to introduce the Cambridge Curriculum.

This bilingual and immersive approach adds an extra academic workload for students, preparing them for global opportunities.

Recognition
In November 2024, Hobby School was honored as a 'Great Place to Work,' a testament to its commitment to excellence and a positive educational environment.
