You can now take a virtual tour of the United Arab Emirates’ Liwa Desert, one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world, courtesy of a camel hired by Google Maps. The footage shares views of the 25 – 40 meter sand dunes that were once home to early settlers in the Late Stone Age and the date farms in the largest oasis in the Arabian Peninsula. To gather the footage, Google strapped its Trekker camera to a camel’s back. The camera has been used to collect off-street imagery in many places where road access is limited, including the Grand Canyon and many other national parks and historic sites.
