Have you been wondering how to make some extra, or new, money during the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic?
Well, The American Broadcasting Company (ABC)’s morning show, Good Morning America helped people across the nation find out.
In a segment that aired Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, the top-rated morning show celebrated some inspiring people who have had the courage to make a career pivot amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic and rising unemployment across the nation.
Introducing the segment, pandemic career pivots that may help you and your bank account, GMA anchor Robin Roberts passed the story over to reporter Rebecca Jarvis, who noted that while this can be a difficult time for jobs, “it can also be an opportunity where you can work from home, take advantage of new technology, and tap into your internal strengths to make money.”
She then went on to introduce several people interviewed about the changes they’ve made to their careers.
One of whom was one of our very own TEFL graduates, Caitlyn Causey, who spoke about her motivation to pursue an online teaching certificate: “It’s a great way to supplement my income right now.”
Her focus is one that many people can relate to as we work through these difficult times, “I’m just trying to help my family,” she said in her interview.
During the show, GMA also reported more than 2 million Americans have started freelancing this year alone.
As schools across the nation, indeed the world, continue to embrace virtual schooling, the demand for online tutors and qualified online ESL teachers continues to grow.
As reporter Rebecca Jarvis noted, it presents a tremendous opportunity for people to make additional income from home.
This can be a great chance for new graduates entering the workforce at this challenging time to earn an income and garner valuable working experience by becoming an online tutor or ESL teacher.
While there are a multitude of options for TEFL certifications, Caitlyn is a recent graduate of
the OISE University of Toronto 150-hour TEFL program offered through Teach Away.
Teach Away offers several avenues for getting involved in teaching, including an online alternative pathway to a teaching license in the US.
While job loss continues and the pandemic is far from over, it continues to be inspiring to see how some of the amazing people within our Teach Away community and beyond are creating positive changes in their lives and to watch more and more people look to the education sector as a point of resilience and opportunity.
